Hi! I’m Dennis

The accidental photographer.

I’d spent the vast majority of my career on the design side, not taking photographs, but rather selecting them: for brochures, advertisements, websites, and so on for some of the biggest companies in the world as well as dozens and dozens of up and comers. As I wound down my design career,  I found that I had a lot of spare time all of a sudden with not very much to do.

One day, an old colleauge called me up and asked, “Hey, do you know any good photographers that want to travel around and take landscape photos?”

I thought about it for three seconds and said, “Ummm, I’ll do it.”

.

.

So where I used to search for images on the internet and wish I could take photos like Peter Lik, now I’m doing the same process, looking for something cool, something inspiring, but looking for it in nature.  Not flipping pages or clicking a mouse with my fingers, but scanning maps and hiking through the wilderness to some of the most scenic places on earth, trying to time my arrival for optimal light, and if missing it.  Waiting.

This walking can be tough, but the waiting is tougher. Yes, patience is the biggest struggle. Nature does not always cooperate, and other people are all too often the enemy when trying to get “the shot.”  But perservance has rewards, and when the shot happens, the satisfaction is truly elevating.  The world is a wonderful place, if only for a few moments at a time.

Thanks for viewing the world through my eyes — I hope you enjoy my site and the work that I’m doing. My design work can be viewed here. Got something for me? Get in touch.
